Textron Aviation’s iconic Beechcraft King Air 360 is set to make its debut in Mongolia after charter operator Hunnu Air placed the country’s first order for the twin-turboprop aircraft. The move marks another significant step in the expansion of Mongolia’s regional aviation sector, with the aircraft expected to enter service by the end of 2027.

Hunnu Air plans to deploy the Beechcraft King Air 360 across a range of operations, including tourism-focused flights, VIP commuter services and regional connectivity within Mongolia. The aircraft’s ability to operate efficiently across long distances and into remote destinations is expected to play a key role in supporting the airline’s expanding network and growing demand for domestic air travel.

The order also strengthens the relationship between Hunnu Air and Textron Aviation, following the airline’s recent acquisition plans for additional Textron products. These include two passenger-configured Cessna SkyCourier aircraft, the first examples of the type destined for Mongolia, as well as a new Cessna Grand Caravan EX. The latest additions will complement Hunnu Air’s existing fleet of Grand Caravan EX aircraft, reinforcing its focus on versatile turboprop operations suited to Mongolia’s unique operating environment.

Mike Shih, vice president of Strategy and Sales at Textron Aviation, said the King Air 360 continues to build on the strengths that have made the aircraft family one of the most successful turboprop platforms in aviation history. He noted that the aircraft offers operators the flexibility needed for a wide variety of missions, ranging from commercial and regional passenger services to special mission operations.

Mongolia’s geography presents significant challenges for ground transport, with vast distances, rugged terrain and harsh winter conditions often limiting accessibility. Aircraft capable of operating reliably from shorter or less-developed airfields are therefore highly valued by local operators. In this environment, the King Air 360 is expected to provide Hunnu Air with a highly adaptable platform capable of serving both business travellers and the country’s growing tourism market.

The Beechcraft King Air family has maintained a dominant position in the global business turboprop market for decades. Since the introduction of the first King Air in 1964, more than 7,900 aircraft have been delivered worldwide, collectively accumulating over 66 million flight hours. The aircraft family has found success not only in corporate aviation, but also in medical evacuation, surveillance, cargo transport and military operations.

The King Air 360 represents the latest evolution of the long-running platform and incorporates several technological and comfort upgrades aimed at improving both operational efficiency and the passenger experience. One of the aircraft’s most notable features is its advanced digital pressurisation system, which automatically manages cabin pressure during climbs and descents. This reduces pilot workload while providing passengers with a smoother and more comfortable journey, particularly on longer sectors.

Passengers also benefit from a lower cabin altitude when the aircraft is operating at its maximum certified altitude of 35,000 feet, reducing fatigue and improving overall comfort. The cabin itself has been designed with an emphasis on refinement and practicality, featuring handcrafted cabinetry, upgraded side ledges and customisable interior finishes.

Additional passenger amenities include electrically driven air conditioning, large CoolView windows, pull-out work tables, power outlets and USB charging ports. A private aft lavatory further enhances the aircraft’s appeal for executive and charter operations, positioning the King Air 360 as a premium regional transport solution.

For Hunnu Air, the arrival of the King Air 360 represents more than simply the introduction of a new aircraft type. It signals the airline’s broader ambition to expand regional connectivity and elevate the standard of domestic air travel within Mongolia. With tourism continuing to grow and demand for reliable regional transport increasing, the King Air 360 is expected to become an important asset in the airline’s future operations.
