Textron Aviation recently announced a significant milestone in the Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 flight test program with the successful maiden flight of a second test article, designated P1. The testing phase for the P1 aircraft will concentrate on avionics, human factors, and interior features.

The Citation CJ4 Gen3 business jet is engineered to provide pilots with advanced capabilities in the cockpit, featuring next-generation Garmin G3000 PRIME avionics and offering the most standard features in its class.

“This achievement continues the forward momentum of the CJ4 Gen3 program and reflects the dedication and expertise of our team in designing, certifying and delivering the best aircraft for our customers,” said Chris Hearne, senior vice president, Engineering & Programs. “By adding this test article to our flight test program, we are continuing rigorous testing as we work toward certification.”

Piloted by James Bearman and Corey Eckhart, the three hour and 29-minute initial flight centered on general avionics and system evaluations. The aircraft reached a maximum altitude of 45,000 feet and a maximum speed of 305 knots. Bearman said it performed to program expectations, with a smooth and seamless flight.

The Citation CJ4 Gen3 business jet was unveiled at the 2024 National Business Aviation Association – Business Aviation Convention & Exhibition (NBAA-BACE), with an anticipated service entry in 2026. The P1 test aircraft has now joined the program, succeeding the CJ4 Gen3 prototype that successfully completed its maiden flight in 2024. As an advanced model in the business jet category, the CJ4 Gen3 continues the esteemed legacy of the Citation family, renowned as the leading series of business jets globally.

The Cessna Citation CJ4 Gen3 stands as the largest aircraft within the light jet category of the Citation series. This single-pilot certified jet offers an exceptional blend of speed, range, and cost-effectiveness, surpassing the capabilities of larger aircraft. It is particularly suited for owner/operators and corporate missions. Globally, customers appreciate the CJ4 for its luxury and productivity, as well as its versatility in various missions such as air ambulance, maritime patrol, search and rescue, and aerial survey.
