Bell Textron used the stage of FIDAE 2026 in Santiago, Chile, to highlight a strong commercial milestone for its light single-engine helicopter portfolio, announcing that the Bell 505 recorded its highest number of orders in Latin America during 2025.

The achievement reflects the continued momentum of the Bell 505 across a region where operators increasingly require flexible, lower-operating-cost rotorcraft capable of serving a wide range of missions. From private transport and tourism to utility work, training, public safety and corporate operations, the Bell 505 has steadily expanded its footprint in Latin America over the last several years.

Bell said the latest order performance underlines the aircraft’s growing popularity in a market defined by varied geography, challenging operating conditions and a broad spectrum of customer requirements. Across Latin America, helicopters often need to perform in high-altitude environments, remote rural areas, dense urban centres and rugged terrain, making adaptability a key purchasing factor for operators.

John Ramos, Bell’s managing director for Latin America, described the milestone as a reflection of both customer confidence and the company’s regional support efforts. He said the Bell 505 has remained in high demand since entering the market, largely because it aligns well with the practical needs of operators across diverse operating environments.

One of the strongest areas for the aircraft has been the Southern Cone, where Bell says more Bell 505s are in operation than in any other sub-region of Latin America. That concentration has elevated the importance of Bell’s support network, including customer service resources and authorised maintenance facilities, which play a central role in sustaining fleet readiness and operator confidence.

For many buyers in Latin America, after-sales support and parts availability can be just as important as aircraft performance. In that respect, Bell’s strategy appears to focus not only on securing new sales, but also on building long-term customer relationships through technical support, maintenance access and operational reliability. That approach has become increasingly important in a regional helicopter market where operators often keep aircraft in service for long periods and depend heavily on manufacturer backing.

The Bell 505 was first introduced in 2014 and received certification from the US Federal Aviation Administration in 2017. Since then, the type has carved out a place in Bell’s product line as an entry-level turbine helicopter aimed at both new and experienced operators. It has also found appeal among flight schools and private owners, while remaining capable enough for light commercial and specialist roles.

Globally, the Bell 505 fleet has now surpassed 600 aircraft in service across more than 66 countries and six continents. Bell also noted that the worldwide fleet has accumulated more than 300,000 flight hours, offering a growing operational track record that supports the aircraft’s reputation in the light helicopter segment.

Performance figures remain a key part of the Bell 505’s appeal. The helicopter offers a cruise speed of 125 knots, or approximately 232 km/h, and a useful load of 1,500 pounds, or about 680 kilograms. Bell has consistently marketed the type around a combination of straightforward handling, lower complexity and strong visibility from the cabin, all of which are especially attractive for training, scenic flights, surveillance and general utility work.

The aircraft’s design places emphasis on safety, simplicity and affordability, while incorporating modern avionics and a clean, contemporary cockpit layout. Those features have helped position the Bell 505 as a practical platform for operators seeking a modern turbine helicopter without moving into significantly larger and more expensive aircraft categories.

Bell’s announcement at FIDAE also serves as a reminder that Latin America remains an important growth region for the helicopter industry. While market conditions vary from country to country, demand for versatile rotary-wing aircraft remains steady, particularly in sectors where infrastructure gaps and terrain limitations make helicopters indispensable.

For Bell, the Bell 505’s record order performance in 2025 signals more than a sales success. It points to a product that has found a durable role in one of the world’s most operationally diverse helicopter markets.
