Located at Dubai International Airport (“DXB”), the vertiport will be constructed by a collaboration between Joby Aviation, Dubai Road and Transport Authority (“RTA”), and Skyports. This milestone was celebrated during a ceremony graced by the presence of notable figures such as His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, His Highness Sheikh Ahmed bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Second Deputy Ruler of Dubai, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General of the RTA, JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby, along with representatives from Dubai RTA and Skyports.
The DXB vertiport is among the first four locations designated by Joby to establish a network of vertiports for their air taxi service in the Emirate, scheduled to commence by late 2025. Additionally, three more vertiports are set to be developed in Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Downtown, and Dubai Marina. This initiative is part of Joby's planned service, which was unveiled following a formal agreement between Joby, the RTA, and Skyports in February 2024. The agreement grants Joby exclusive access to the Dubai air taxi market for six years.
“Our air taxi service in Dubai will offer tourists and residents the opportunity to experience a revolutionary travel experience, with faster movement between key destinations and breathtaking views of the city skyline,” commented JoeBen Bevirt, Founder and CEO of Joby “With the start of construction on our air taxi network, our shared vision for electric air taxi service in Dubai is coming to life. I’m grateful to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum and the government of Dubai for their support and commitment to innovation.”
The vertiport in Dubai is strategically planned to be part of the city's multi-transport system, ensuring smooth connections with Emirates Station 2 of the Dubai Metro, DXB Airport, parking facilities, and various other ground transportation choices. This three-story, 3,100-square-meter facility is tailored to offer passengers an outstanding experience and efficient operations, showcasing a forward-looking approach to air travel that prioritizes convenience and effortless passenger flow.
The facility is set to have two take-off and landing stands, each featuring the Joby-designed Global Electric Aviation Charging System ("GEACS") for quick vehicle charging and conditioning between flights.
Joby has recently revealed that it has initiated the initial phase of becoming a certified air taxi operator in the United Arab Emirates. To obtain an Air Operator Certificate from the General Civil Aviation Authority of the UAE, Joby will showcase the preparedness of its aircraft, along with its training, maintenance, operations, and safety protocols for commercial air transportation.
Joby’s electric air taxi is designed to carry a pilot and four passengers at speeds of up to 200 mph, offering high-speed mobility with a fraction of the noise produced by helicopters and zero operating emissions.
