Epic E1000 AX Earns EASA Certification, Opening European Market

Epic Aircraft has reached another important milestone in its international expansion with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) granting type certification to the E1000 AX, clearing the way for sales and operations across Europe.

The certification, announced during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2026, allows the Oregon-based manufacturer to begin introducing its flagship high-performance single-engine turboprop to European customers, with deliveries expected to commence in 2027. For Epic Aircraft, the approval represents far more than regulatory compliance; it is a significant step in expanding the company's global presence and bringing one of the world's fastest certified single-engine turboprops to a broader market.

Epic Aircraft CEO Doug King characterised the certification as the result of years of engineering and certification efforts. "Achieving EASA certification for the E1000 AX is a major milestone and showcases the commitment, skill, and persistence of our entire team," King stated. He mentioned that the aircraft is already well-regarded for its excellent performance, modern safety systems, and passenger comfort. "The E1000 AX is known for its remarkable performance, cutting-edge safety features, and premium comfort. We are thrilled to offer these benefits to pilots and owners across Europe."

The E1000 AX is designed to bridge the gap between conventional turboprops and light business jets by offering jet-like speeds while maintaining the lower operating costs and flexibility associated with a single-engine turboprop.

Powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A turboprop engine and constructed almost entirely from advanced composite materials, the aircraft combines speed, efficiency, and modern avionics into a package aimed at owner-pilots and corporate operators alike.

Among its standout performance figures are:

• Maximum cruise speed of 333 knots

• Maximum range of 1,560 nautical miles

• Maximum operating altitude of 34,000 feet

• Climb rate of 4,000 feet per minute

• Full-fuel payload of 1,177 pounds

Epic says the aircraft carries a larger payload while maintaining higher cruise speeds than any other certified single-engine turboprop currently available.

The aircraft is equipped with the Garmin G1000 NXi integrated flight deck, enhanced autopilot capabilities, synthetic vision technology, weather radar options, and advanced safety systems designed to reduce pilot workload while enhancing situational awareness.

Recognising that customer support is critical to success in a new market, Epic has already established its first European support partners ahead of deliveries. Airlink Salzburg, based in Austria, has been appointed as the company's inaugural Authorised Service Centre for Europe. The facility will provide factory-authorised maintenance, technical support, and ongoing customer assistance for European operators.

Epic has also partnered with Personalised Flight Training & Examinations, also located in Salzburg, as its official European Flight Training Organisation. The company will provide type-specific pilot training and examination services to help owners transition safely and efficiently onto the E1000 AX.

The dual appointments ensure that European customers will have local access to maintenance, technical expertise, and pilot training without relying on support from the United States.

The EASA certification follows a series of milestones for Epic Aircraft over the past several years. The original E1000 received FAA type certification in 2019, establishing the aircraft as a certified production model. This was followed by the certification of the upgraded E1000 GX in 2021 and the latest E1000 AX variant in 2025, incorporating further refinements in avionics, systems, and operational capability.

The European approval now positions Epic to compete more directly with established turboprop manufacturers in one of the world's largest general aviation markets.

Europe has long represented an attractive market for high-performance turboprops, where business aviation, regional connectivity, and owner-operated aircraft all play important roles. The E1000 AX's combination of speed, payload, and operating efficiency makes it an appealing option for operators seeking near-jet performance without the higher acquisition and operating costs associated with light business jets.

The EASA certification is also noteworthy for South African operators, although the approval applies specifically to Europe; EASA certification is widely recognised internationally and often supports future certification and acceptance in other regions. As Epic continues expanding its global footprint, the E1000 AX could become an increasingly familiar sight beyond North America.

With European certification secured and a support network already established, Epic Aircraft has laid the groundwork for its next phase of international growth. Customer deliveries beginning in 2027 will provide the first real indication of how the E1000 AX performs in one of the world's most competitive general aviation markets, but the aircraft's impressive performance figures suggest it is well positioned to attract pilots seeking a modern, fast, and efficient turboprop.
