Robinson Helicopter Company introduced the R66 Army Training helicopter at the 2025 Army Aviation Mission Solutions Summit (Quad A) in Nashville, Tennessee. Distinguished as the sole American-designed and manufactured helicopter in its category, the R66 provides a reliable and cost-effective training solution for the Army's Initial Entry Rotary Wing (IERW) program.

The Robinson R66 helicopter presents substantial benefits as the prospective rotorcraft trainer for the US Army. It consistently demonstrates the lowest acquisition and direct operating costs (DOC) in its category, along with the most advanced safety features. Through vertically integrated manufacturing, over 85% of all R66 components are produced at Robinson’s facility in Torrance, California. This commitment to American manufacturing guarantees reliable parts availability and superior quality.

Within the aircraft, the R66 features its distinctive instructor-friendly cyclic design, offering superior instructor oversight to enhance control and safety in the training environment. Tailored for practical training, the R66 surpasses stringent Army training standards, facilitating a seamless transition of skills to operational settings.

The incorporation of advanced Garmin G500H TXi and GTN750 avionics enhances situational awareness and aids in the transition to digital cockpit operations. The intuitive powerplant, featuring a power turbine governor and twist-grip throttle, streamlines engine management, which is essential for effective training. Additionally, the R66 helicopter is equipped with a standard integrated 4k cockpit camera, further improving safety and supporting continuous training efforts.

“The R66 embodies American-made readiness, built with reliability, quality, and durability at its core, and we are committed to providing seamless American-made support,” said David Smith, president and CEO of Robinson Helicopter Company. “Pilots worldwide learn critical power management skills and achieve true flight readiness in a Robinson aircraft. This foundation prepares them exceptionally well for future operational demands.”
