Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG), the parent company of the national carrier Malaysia Airlines, has formally confirmed a firm order with Airbus for an additional 20 A330-900 aircraft. This acquisition will effectively double Malaysia Airlines' future A330neo fleet to a total of 40 aircraft. The announcement was made during the official visit of the Prime Minister of Malaysia, H.E. Anwar Ibrahim, to France.

In 2022, MAG initially chose the A330neo as part of its widebody fleet renewal program, committing to 20 aircraft. To date, four of these aircraft have been delivered. With a completely new premium cabin design, these aircraft are currently serving routes from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne, Auckland, and Bali.
