With Garmin's ecosystem now on the web, pilots get some cool flight planning tools and free maps, including the Map tab. This includes topographic maps, satellite views, VFR sectionals, IFR High/Low charts, and street maps, as mentioned in their press release. You can also check out extra details like radar, temporary flight restrictions, and fuel prices through the Controls menu. Plus, the Winds Aloft layer lets pilots see and learn about wind and pressure systems.

With basic route planning, pilots can plug in their chosen route, altitude, fuel usage, and aircraft speed. It then calculates the distance, fuel needs, and estimated time of arrival, with an option to show details like fuel burn and true airspeed at different altitudes. Pilots can also check out airport and runway details, along with terminal charts, in the Airport Info menu.

Garmin Pilot app users get access to detailed flight planning and aircraft profiles for free. In the Flights tab, they can make, save, and file flight plans, check out weather briefings, and see all the details of their flight plan, like distance, payload, and fuel needs. Fuel calculators help them figure out how much useful load is left. The procedure selector lets them view departures, approaches, or arrivals on a map right next to the flight plan.

The Aircraft tab lets pilots easily add new planes or tweak existing ones and update performance info. You can either enter aircraft details manually or pick from a ready-made template. Plus, flight plans and aircraft details sync up across all Garmin Pilot platforms.

Garmin Pilot Web also displays live traffic, including call sign and aircraft type, as it also offers to Garmin Pilot mobile app users.

“The Garmin Pilot mobile app has always been known for incredible maps and weather overlays, and we’re excited to bring those capabilities and more to the web. If you are not already familiar with Garmin Pilot, I encourage you to give Garmin Pilot Web a try when planning your next flight. With its free, at-a-glance tools, you will find it can greatly simplify your online flight planning workflow,” said Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales, Marketing, Programs, and Support Carl Wolf.

You can check out Garmin Pilot Web online. To use all the features, you’ll need a Garmin Pilot subscription. Right now, you can do full-on flight planning in North America and they’re planning to add more regions soon, hopefully, Southern Africa won't have to wait too long.
