Airlink and Azorra have finalised a comprehensive lease agreement that marks a significant milestone for the Johannesburg-headquartered airline. This agreement will facilitate the acquisition of 10 state-of-the-art Embraer E195-Es twin-engine passenger aircraft, which are renowned for their efficiency, comfort, and advanced technology. The Embraer E195-E2 is part of the E-Jet family and is designed to cater to the growing demands of regional air travel, offering enhanced passenger experience and operational performance.

The first delivery of these aircraft is scheduled for later this year, which is an exciting development for Airlink as it seeks to expand its fleet and enhance its service offerings. The introduction of the E195-E2s jets is expected to allow Airlink to operate more efficiently on both existing and new routes, thereby increasing its competitiveness in the regional aviation market. The aircraft's modern design includes improved fuel efficiency, lower maintenance costs, and a quieter cabin environment, making it an ideal choice for airlines looking to optimise their operations while also prioritising passenger comfort.

As part of this strategic move, Airlink aims to leverage the advanced capabilities of the E195-E2 to not only enhance its operational flexibility but also to contribute to its sustainability goals. The aircraft's advanced aerodynamics and eco-friendly engines are expected to significantly reduce carbon emissions, aligning with global trends towards greener aviation practices. This is particularly relevant in today’s climate-conscious market, where airlines are increasingly held accountable for their perceived environmental impact.

The partnership with Azorra signifies a collaborative effort to bolster Airlink's growth trajectory. Azorra, known for its expertise in aircraft leasing, brings valuable insights and resources that will assist Airlink in navigating the complexities of fleet management and operational efficiency. This relationship is poised to strengthen Airlink's position in the competitive landscape of regional air travel, allowing it to better serve its customers and expand its reach.

The new aircraft, accommodating up to 136 passengers in a two-by-two cabin configuration, will augment Airlink's capacity, thereby enhancing its competitiveness on high-density routes. Additionally, its extended range will enable the exploration of new routes, facilitating service to more destinations across sub-Saharan Africa.

Airlink CEO, de Villiers Engelbrecht, says: “It is an exciting and daunting moment for Airlink. Exciting because it heralds the next phase of Airlink’s development and growth as the leading regional airline in Southern Africa and now possibly beyond. Daunting, as there is a lot to do in the weeks ahead before the first aircraft enters service, hopefully in December this year, but I have no doubt that the Airlink team will deliver, as they always do.”

John Evans, CEO at Azorra, says: "This is an exciting step forward in our partnership with Airlink. The addition of the E195-E2 to their fleet highlights our shared commitment to operational efficiency, sustainable growth, and increased capacity and service. We’re proud to work alongside Embraer and Pratt & Whitney to bring next-generation aircraft to Airlink, supporting enhanced connectivity across Africa.”

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, says: “We are proud to deepen our long-standing partnership with Airlink as it takes this next step into the future with the E195-E2. This aircraft is the most efficient single-aisle jet in its class and perfectly suited to support Airlink’s ambitious growth plans across Southern Africa. We look forward to seeing the E2 in Airlink’s livery, delivering unmatched performance, comfort, and sustainability.”
