Eve Advances Global Certification Effort for Eve 100 eVTOL

Eve Air Mobility has reached two significant milestones in the certification journey of its Eve 100 electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft, further strengthening the company's ambitions to bring the aircraft to global markets.

Announced during the 2026 Farnborough International Airshow, the developments include the opening of a public consultation by Brazil's National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) on updated airworthiness criteria for the Eve 100, as well as Eve's formal application to the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) to begin the Type Certificate validation process.

The announcements represent another important step in the race to certify the next generation of Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) aircraft, an industry that is moving steadily from concept to commercial reality.


Unlike conventional aircraft, eVTOLs introduce entirely new technologies and operational concepts that require regulators to develop specialised certification standards. Rather than seeking approval from one aviation authority at a time, Eve has adopted a coordinated approach, working simultaneously with several of the world's leading regulators.

The company first applied for Type Certification with Brazil's ANAC in February 2022. In 2023, it expanded its certification programme by engaging with the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to pursue concurrent validation. The latest application to EASA brings Europe's aviation regulator formally into the programme.


By aligning certification activities across Brazil, the United States and Europe, Eve hopes to streamline future aircraft approvals and facilitate international operations once the Eve 100 enters service.

ANAC's latest consultation concerns revised airworthiness criteria specifically developed for the Eve 100. The updated requirements build upon the initial certification criteria published in November 2024 and are intended to further harmonise Brazilian regulations with international certification approaches, particularly recent FAA guidance for powered-lift aircraft. Industry stakeholders have until 18 August 2026 to submit comments before the criteria are finalised.


The consultation forms part of ANAC's broader effort to establish a comprehensive regulatory framework for Advanced Air Mobility in Brazil, covering not only aircraft certification but also future infrastructure, operational standards and airspace integration.

At the same time, Eve has formally applied to EASA to validate the aircraft's future Type Certificate. Validation by EASA is an important milestone because it enables an aircraft certified in one jurisdiction to be recognised for operation within European member states following the completion of the validation process. The application initiates technical discussions and familiarisation activities between Eve and EASA, laying the groundwork for eventual certification in Europe.


For an aircraft intended for worldwide deployment, regulatory alignment between ANAC, the FAA and EASA is considered essential.

Johann Bordais, CEO of Eve Air Mobility, described both announcements as evidence of steady progress. He noted that the close technical collaboration with ANAC and ongoing engagement with other international aviation authorities demonstrate the company's commitment to a comprehensive certification programme for new aircraft technologies. According to Bordais, these steps strengthen Eve's path toward type certification while supporting plans to introduce the Eve 100 into major global markets.

Brazil's civil aviation regulator also highlighted the strategic importance of Advanced Air Mobility. ANAC Director-President Tiago Faierstein said the agency views AAM as a priority sector where Brazil can play a leading international role by working closely with other aviation authorities to develop safe and harmonised certification standards. He added that ANAC is simultaneously developing regulations covering the infrastructure and airspace management necessary to support future eVTOL operations, emphasising that the agency believes eVTOL aircraft will become a permanent part of the aviation landscape.


Eve is one of several manufacturers pursuing certification of electric air taxis, alongside companies including Joby Aviation, Archer Aviation, Vertical Aerospace, Beta Technologies and Lilium's successor programmes. While aircraft designs vary, all face the same challenge of satisfying stringent certification requirements before commercial passenger operations can begin.

Industry observers widely regard certification as the single largest hurdle for the emerging Advanced Air Mobility sector. Regulators must ensure these aircraft achieve safety standards equivalent to conventional commercial aviation while accommodating entirely new propulsion systems, flight control architectures and operational concepts. As a result, progress with certification authorities often represents one of the most significant indicators of an eVTOL programme's maturity.
