The weekend of the 4th and 5th of November saw the Kwazulu Natal Large Scale Aerobatics Championships held in Howick at the Beautiful Howick Model Fliers Club.

Great weather guaranteed an amazing weekend for the pilots and organizers. Aircraft ranging from 30cc to 150cc were tested throughout the weekend, with both Advanced and Freestyle Aerobatics sequences flown exceptionally well, making them fantastic to watch and participate in.

CMC Hobbies and LSA South Africa, along with a generous private individual, enabled the competition through substantial sponsorship. Special thanks to Clive and his team for organizing another fantastic event at the Howick Model Fliers Club.

Large Scale Aerobatics follows rules that closely resemble those of full-scale competitions. The classes involved are also quite similar, including Basic, Sportsman, Intermediate, Advanced, and Unlimited. Each maneuver is scored out of 10 points, with a strong focus on presentation, as well as horizontal and vertical lines.

Trophies were presented to the top LSA pilot of 2017, an honor that went to Gareth de Lange.

Ryan Mason won the trophy for the Basic Competition, while Brad Rea was recognized as the most improved pilot for the 2017 season.
